England along with Welsh Drawn Together for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was conducted by sporting legends such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales will face off in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major early clash in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This draw echoes their memorable clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where a Welsh win at Twickenham played a part in the English team's surprise group stage elimination.

Other Notable Group Pairings

The Irish alongside Scotland also share a group once again, just as the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, they secured a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, who each made a strong impression as underdogs in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups are kept apart from defending champions and top-ranked South Africa until the final, assuming the South Africans top their own group.

Knockout Implications

Should the groups conclude in line with the current world rankings, further top favourites like the All Blacks and Les Bleus would remain separated from both England and the Irish until the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on the same half of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Face Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts Australia have been drawn together with their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

The Wallabies will kick off the World Cup in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee match designed to launch the event.

Elsewhere, reigning champions the Springboks have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and Romania. France are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will face Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup history.

While the winner of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the game's heavyweights initially, they will have to face the runner-up from Group B – most likely Italy – in the first knockout round.

Four of the other six group winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
